And thankfully, the humans in my life, don't mind that at all!!

clothes and shoes

Plenty has been said about how dogs are these wonderful, unconditional creatures. Dogs are singularly beautiful souls that fill our lives. Make our days brighter and our hearts warm and fuzzy.

But it is their singularity that makes them beyond endearing. And why you want to do more and more for them.

The power of Giving

“From the first licks, to the winter cuddles, dogs always just give!"

It is fascinating to me how a dog will give and give and never get exhausted. From the moment you bring a puppy home, they start their counter of giving. Yes, they make a mess of your Jimmy Choos, your furniture, and if un-restrained, overwhelm you beyond your capacity!

But, the snuggles, the wet kisses, the tumbles, and the fascinated exploration of the surroundings followed by exhausted naps tie a string around your heart like nothing else!

And that my friend is a string for life.

Singularity and ease

The singularity of a dog is perhaps the trait I adore the most. Here are the top five things that keep a dog happy:

  • Hooman & Food!

  • Hooman & Walk!

  • Hooman & Play!

  • Hooman & Naps!

  • Hooman & Hooman & some more of the Hooman!

Those, in a nutshell, are things that your dog will ask from you. Always living in the moment they forget something that happened ten seconds ago and let their tails wag again.

A very close friend and a lifetime pet parent once quoted "To a dog, every day that has you in it, is a festival and you yourself are an angel descended from heaven"

They don't need much. We as humans can go on discussing what food, which beds, what clothes are good for a dog etc, but our dogs themselves are perfectly happy and loyal whether you feed them milk and bread, or Parle-G or buy them gourmet meals.

To your dog, you are the biggest treat! The center of their universe! You are the bloody sun!

The struggle is real

It is impossible to get "long term annoyed" with your dog. Even if they make a mess, the minute you see them butt wagging, and those deep curious eyes you forget the mess even exists.

Because, how do you remain annoyed with someone who performs many roles and looks for zero credit? Take a minute and think about it, your dog is the true superhero in the equation, essaying one of many roles:

  • Your therapist

  • Your fitness instructor

  • Your food safety inspector

  • Your floor mop ( in case you spilled food)

  • Your yoga buddy

  • Your official cuddler

  • Your alarm clock

  • Your social media booster

And the list goes on. How do you stay annoyed with someone like that? Can you imagine how much money you will need to spend if you had to get all these people and services?

Your dog does these for free and on top of that, makes you feel your arrival home is straight out of a Bollywood movie!!

Why just Dogs?

That drive has saved numerous lives, pulled people out of depression, rescued people, protected people, and given love and affection beyond reasoning even till their very last moments of existence.

I am a big animal person! Dogs, cats, horses, elephants, you name them! Barring lizards and roaches of course! They are scary beings with infinite power!

All animals are unilaterally trusting, helping us in ways we humans can only about hope to count. Then why just dogs? Dogs have been a part of our existence for over 30,000 years and perhaps they get us a tad better. Historically dogs were working animals. A lot of the breeds in existence today are because these dogs were bred for specific purposes and are categorised as such.

In that sense, dogs have a drive. A drive to please or work for their humans. A drive that kind of tends to translate to a sense of duty to their owners. And fascinatingly, that drive is not limited to their breed behaviour. That drive has saved numerous lives, pulled people out of depression, rescued people, protected people, and given love and affection beyond reasoning even till their last moments.

That's why DOGS! That's why!

Epilogue

I have raised five furry babies, supported many more. This post is dedicated to my fourth furry baby Lyra, who crossed the rainbow bridge last year, owing to renal failure. She was only five.

The love and affection a dog provides to you, cannot be put in words. This is my dedication to all those furry babies and all those fabulous paw parents, who treat them with love, affection, and a sense of wide-eyed wonder!!
